Program Overview

Since 2011, UVAA has been providing singers the valuable opportunity to build their resumes outside of academia by performing full operatic roles with orchestra, while coaching and training with our excellent musical and acting staff and world class guest artists. The program provides instruction, networking, and experience geared towards career development within the field of opera. Many of our past participants have gone on to have successful careers.

Program Details

COVID-19 Considerations: It is now anticipated with vaccines being distributed worldwide that we will be able to hold a live program in July, 2021. That being said, we will also be taking every precaution to keep everyone safe and healthy during the program. Should circumstances require us to move online, UVAA has a unique, online alternative that can be implemented  that will include digitally produced, complete performances of both operas and virtual versions of all program offerings. We are optimistic, however, that this will not be necessary.

Dates: July 5-31, 2021

Location: Orem, UT (Noorda Center for the Performing Arts on Utah Valley University campus and other local locations)

Applications: Priority deadline is February 10th, 2021, however we will accept applications until all roles are filled.

Utah Vocal Arts Academy is using Yaptracker for our applications this season. Applications will be available shortly. You do not need to be a paying subscriber to Yaptracker to use the application form, though you will need an account (guest accounts are available; see the website for details).  Registration can be completed at http://www.yaptracker.com.

Application requirements: Applicants should prepare (2) contrasting opera arias for online video submission. Please make sure that the audio and video are of a good quality. Video should be close enough to see facial expressions if possible. Studio recorded (mixed and sound engineered) videos are not acceptable. We are looking for live, unmixed singing.

Singers who had previously been assigned a cover status will then be moved into active role assignments.

Off-night chorus policy:

All singers will sing in the chorus on their off-night in one or both operas.

Arrivals/Departure:

Please arrange to fly into Salt Lake City International Airport, or possibly Provo Municipal. All airfare and travel costs are the sole responsibility of the participant. Specific arrival and check-in dates should be cleared with the apartment complex management. You should be in Orem by 9am on July 5th. Departure should be Aug 1st.
